Etymology 1
From Vietnamese Hà Nội, from Chinese 河內/河内 (Hénèi). Literally inside the rivers, so named because it is located 'inside' the Red River.

The commandery was established in the Han dynasty (206 BC–220 AD), and was so named on account of it being to the north of the Yellow River, however the approximate region may be attestable in pre-Qin texts (before 221 BC).
Proper noun
河內
- (historical) Henei (region just north of the middle reaches of the Yellow River)
