Etymology

大君, , 王女 (ōkimi, non-親王 (shinnō)/内親王 (naishinnō) princes and princesses) + (genitive marker) + (department). Alternatively, 諸王 (ōkindachi, non-親王 (shinnō)/内親王 (naishinnō) princes and princesses) + + . The kanji spelling literally reads "Department of Legitimate Relatives". See also 正親町 (Ōgimachi).
