Etymology

Wasei kango (和製漢語), orthographically borrowed from Japanese ()(せい) (misei), coined by Kikunae Ikeda circa 1908. In Japan, it was renamed to (あじ)(もと) (ajinomoto) ( > 味之素 (wèizhīsù) ) for commercial reasons.
