Etymology

Likely a compound of くる (kuru, root for turning, as in くるくる (kurukuru, “spinning around”), 繰る (kuru, “to spin a thread”), 枢 (kuru, “hinge”), 転めく (kurumeku, “to spin round”), possibly 車 (kuruma, “vehicle”)) +‎ 節 (fushi, “joint, section”). The fushi changes to bushi as an instance of rendaku (連濁).[1]
