From Proto-Hellenic *wrā́kʰiā, either a deverbal formation from ῥᾱ́σσω (rhā́ssō, “strike, dash”) or an abstract or collective formation from the unattested *ῥᾱχος (*rhākhos, “stroke, bump”).[1]
