The Mycenaean Greek cognate 𐀂𐀡𐀡𐀦𐀂 (i-po-po-qo-i, ἱπποφορβοῖς) points to Proto-Hellenic *ikkʷopʰorgʷós. Equivalent to ἵππος (híppos, horse) + *φορβός (*phorbós, feeder), the second component from φέρβω (phérbō, to feed, nourish) + -ός (-ós).
