ἀρπεδόνη
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- ἀρπεδών (arpedṓn)
Etymology
Unknown. Connection with ἁρπάζω (harpázō, “to snatch away”) is improbable for a word "cord". Grošelj Živa connects the word with Lithuanian verpti (“to spin”), but the -αρ- must be analogical after -ερ-.
