ἀκριβής

Ancient Greek
Etymology
Disputed. Commonly held to be formed from ἄκρος (ákros, “sharp”) and another element of uncertain provenance, e.g. εἴβω (eíbō, “drop, let fall”) according to Schwyzer, though rejected by Beekes & van Beek. Tichy takes the component parts to be ἄκρις (ákris, “mountain top”) in a dative-locative form in -ī + βῆναι (bênai, “go, walk”).
