Usage notes
The independent vowel អ (ʼâ) and the consonant អ (ʼɑɑ) look identical. After the Unicode alphabet was used for a few years, it became clear that having two separate but visually identical letters was confusing and led to a lot of misspellings. It was decided that the symbol អ (ʼɑɑ) should be used for both the consonant and the vowel.
