Etymology

Borrowed from a Northeast Caucasian language: compare Avar микк (mikk), Bats მუხ (mux), Hunzib мугь (muh), Dargwa миг (mig), Kryts мегь (meh), Udi маъхна ход (ma̱χna χod), Tsakhur мухъ (muq).[1]

Displaced the native term, *წყანი (*c̣q̇ani), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *c̣₁q̇an-.
