Etymology

From Middle Georgian კამბეჩი (ḳambeči), გამეჩი (gameči), from Old Georgian კამბეჩი (ḳambeči), კამბეში (ḳambeši). An Iranian borrowing. Compare Persian گاومیش (gâvmiš) and see there for more.

Another Old Georgian term გამეში (gameši) is probably borrowed from Persian گامیش (gâmêš).
