Etymology

From Middle Persian TWRAmyš (gāw-mēš, literally cow-sheep); compare Persian گاو (gâv, cow) and میش (miš, ewe) for the constituents. Old Armenian գոմէշ (gomēš), Classical Syriac ܓܡܘܫܐ (gāmōšā) and Old Georgian კამბეჩი (ḳambeči) are borrowed from Middle Iranian.
