Ultimately from Akkadian 𒅇𒆪𒊒𒌝 (Ù.KU.RU.UM /⁠agurru, ukurru⁠/),[1][2] the immediate source of borrowing probably being Persian آگور (âgur, burned brick)[3][4] (or most probably its Middle Persian antecedent).
