Etymology
စမုန် (ca.mun, “category of spices”) + စပါး (ca.pa:, “rice paddy”). According to the Myanmar Language Commission, said to derive from Sanskrit अजमोद (ajamoda, “celery”) + Sanskrit यव (yava, “barley”)
