From Proto-Tai *hwanᴬ (“dream”). Cognate with Thai ฝัน (fǎn), Northern Thai ᨺᩢ᩠ᨶ, Lü ᦚᧃ (ḟan), Shan ၽၼ် (phǎn) or ၾၼ် (fǎn), Ahom 𑜇𑜃𑜫 (phan) or 𑜇𑜞𑜃𑜫 (phran). Compare Sui vyanl (“dream”), Southern Kam bienl, biaenl (“dream”).
