From Proto-Tai *plɤwᴮ (“empty”). Cognate with Lao ເປົ່າ (pao), Northern Thai ᨸᩖᩮᩢ᩵ᩣ (paw), Lü ᦔᧁᧈ (ṗaw¹), Shan ပဝ်ႇ (pào), Ahom 𑜆𑜧 (paw) or 𑜆𑜨𑜧 (pow).

7. (slang) innocent; guiltless; having no role or participation (especially in something wrong).
