สนิม • (sà-nǐm)

1. rust: oxide coating formed on iron or steel.

     The rust of an iron originates from within the iron itself and will devour it that it becomes ruined, just as a sin that originates from the sinner himself and will return ill results to him.

From corruption of Old Khmer ថ្និំ (thniṃ), ត្និំ (tniṃ), ថ្ន្យំ (thnyaṃ, “regalia, finery, ornament worn by a god, sovereign, etc”).
