Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *akka (“elder sister”). Cognate with Tamil அக்கா (akkā), Telugu అక్క (akka), Kannada ಅಕ್ಕ (akka), Tulu ಅಕ್ಕ (akka), ಅಕ್ಕಾ (akkā), or ಅಕ್ಕೆ (akke). Compare Sinhalese අක්කා (akkā).
