Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀨𑀮 (phala), from Sanskrit फल (phála), commonly considered a borrowing from Proto-Dravidian *paẓam (ripe fruit). Doublet of ફલ (phal). Cognate with Hindi फल (phal), Nepali फल (phal), Marathi फळ (phaḷ), Rajasthani फळ (phaḷ).
