Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀽𑀭 (kappūra), from Sanskrit कर्पूर (karpū́ra). Compare Old Hindi कपूर (kapūra), Old Gujarati कपूरि (kapūri, instrumental singular), Old Marathi 𑘎𑘰𑘢𑘳𑘨 (kāpura).
