Borrowed from Classical Persian زمانه (zamāna), which is from Middle Persian [script needed] (ẕmʾnk' /zamānag/), from [script needed] (ẕmʾn /zamān/), from Old Persian *jamānā, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *ǰámaHnaH (“time, hour”, literally “that which arrives”). Cognate with Hindustani زمانہ / ज़माना (zamānā), Gujarati જમાનો (jamāno), Punjabi ਜ਼ਮਾਨਾ (zamānā), Marathi जमाना (jamānā).
