Inherited from Middle Bengali গুমট (gumoṭ), from Prakrit *𑀕𑀼𑀫𑁆𑀳​𑀝𑁆𑀝 (*gumha​ṭṭa), from 𑀕𑀼𑀫𑁆𑀳 (gumha​) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀝𑁆𑀝- (-ṭṭa-), from Sanskrit *ग्रूष्म (grūṣma) (an unattested variant of ग्रीष्म (grīṣma, summer)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʷr̥Hšmás, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷr̥h₂-sm(h₂)-ós (heavy summer). Doublet of গ্রীষ্ম (griśśõ).
