From Sanskrit *উৎশ্ৱাস (utśvāsa), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱʷes- (to pant, puff, sigh). Related to Latin queror, Sanskrit श्वास (śvāsá). Cognate with English quarrel, Pashto ساه (sāh, breath, blow, puff, soul, spirit, essence), Baluchi ساہ (sáh, breath, blow, essence).
