Inherited from Prakrit 𑀇𑀁𑀤𑀼𑀭 (iṃdura) from Sanskrit उन्दुर (undura), इन्दूर (indūra); ultimately from a lost Vedic substrate language.[1] Cognate with Assamese এন্দুৰ (endur), Chakma 𑄅𑄚𑄴𑄘𑄪𑄢𑄴 (undur), 𑄃𑄪𑄚𑄴𑄘𑄪𑄢𑄴 (undur), Sylheti ꠃꠘ꠆ꠖꠥꠞ (undur), Hindi इंदुर (indur), Gujarati ઉંદર (undar), Marathi उंदीर (undīr), Konkani उंदिर (undir).
