From Sanskrit उन्दुर (undura) from a Vedic substrate language.[1] Cognate with Konkani उंदिर (undir), Gujarati ઉંદર (undar), Hindi इंदुर (indur), Bengali ইঁদুর (ĩdur), Assamese এন্দুৰ (endur), Sylheti ꠃꠘ꠆ꠖꠥꠞ (undur).
