Inherited from Early Assamese আপুনি (apuni, self), from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀅𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀡 (appaṇa, self), from Sanskrit আৎমন্ (ātman, self). Cognate with Sylheti ꠀꠙꠘꠦ (afone), Bengali আপনি (apni), Hindi आप (āp).
