Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *źʰáwmas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́ʰáwmas, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰéw-mo-s, from *ǵʰew- (“to pour”). Cognate with Ancient Greek χεῦμᾰ (kheûma, “that which is poured”), χέω (khéō), Phrygian ζευμάν (zeumán).
