Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀳𑀮𑀤𑁆𑀤𑀸 (haladdā), 𑀳𑀮𑀺𑀤𑁆𑀤𑀸 (haliddā), from Sanskrit हरिद्रा (haridrā). Compare Gujarati હળદર (haḷdar), Hindi हल्दी (haldī), Punjabi ਹਲਦੀ (haldī), Odia ହଳଦି (hôḷôdi), Bengali হলুদ (holud), Assamese হালধি (halodhi), Sylheti ꠅꠟꠂꠖ (oloido).
