Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *stā́wti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *stā́wti, from Proto-Indo-European *stḗw-ti, Narten present of *stew- (“to praise, laud”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬯𐬙𐬀𐬊𐬙𐬌 (staoti).
