From Proto-Indo-Aryan *saptatí, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *saptaHtí, from Proto-Indo-European *septḿ̥h₁ḱomt (“seven-ten”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἑβδομήκοντα (hebdomḗkonta), Latin septuāgintā.
