Etymology
Likely from a metathesis of unattested *पिश्ल (piśla), from पेश् (peś), from Proto-Indo-European *peyḱ- (“to mark, paint”); compare पिंशति (piṃśati, “to adorn; to mould, carve out, grind”) and Proto-Slavic *pь̀strъ (“variegated”), as well as Ancient Greek πρικός (prikós) and πῐκρός (pikrós, “sharp, pointed”), the former being a metathesis of the latter.
