Borrowed from Classical Persian لشکر (laškar), from Middle Persian [script needed] (lškl /laškar/). Superseded the original borrowing Old Hindi लसकर (lasakara). Compare Bengali লস্কর (loskor), Gujarati લશ્કર (laśkar), Marathi लष्कर (laṣkar), Punjabi ਲਸ਼ਕਰ (laśkar) / لَشکَر (laśkar).
