Etymology

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀩𑀳𑀼𑀢𑁆𑀢 (bahutta), from Sanskrit बहुत्व (bahutva, abundance), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰenǵʰ- (thick). The development from a noun to an adjective was influenced by Prakrit [script needed] (pahutta-), from Sanskrit प्रभूत (prabhūta, come forth; abundant). Compare Bengali বহুত (bohut), Gujarati બહુ (bahu).
