From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ćarúṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čarúš, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷerús (“pot, cauldron”). Cognate with Old Irish coire (“kettle, cauldron”), Old English hwer, Middle Welsh peir, Russian ча́ра (čára), Old Norse hverr.
