Etymology
Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘑𑘨𑘰𑘜𑘹𑘽 (gharāṇeṃ), from Maharastri Prakrit *𑀖𑀭𑀸𑀬𑀬𑀡 (*gharāyayaṇa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit *घरायतन (gharāyatana), from *घर (ghara) + आयतन (āyátana), in which *घर (ghara, “house”) is a reborrowed Prakrit form of गृह (gṛhá). Cognate with Hindustani گَھرَانَا (gharānā) / घराना (gharānā), Sindhi گھراڻو / घराणो, Punjabi ਘਰਾਨਾ (gharānā) / گھرانہ (ghrānh).
