From Proto-Indo-Iranian *garȷ́ʰ- (“to complain, accuse, weep”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬔𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬈 (gərəzaite), Persian گلا (gilâh, “complaint”), Parthian [Term?] (/grzyšn/, “complaint”).
