Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Iranian [Term?]; compare Avestan 𐬐𐬀𐬎𐬭𐬎𐬎𐬀 (kauruua, mutilated), Persian [script needed] (karv, decayed teeth). Further origin is uncertain, though probably not a foreign borrowing; compare perhaps Ancient Greek κολοβός (kolobós, mutilated). (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “Is the "10 billion" meaning of the same origin as the "mutilated" meaning?”)
