Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘎𑘚𑘳 (kaḍu), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀟𑀼𑀅 (kaḍua) (with Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-)), from Sanskrit कटुक (káṭuka), from कटु (kaṭú), from Dravidian. Doublet of कटू (kaṭū). Cognate to Konkani कोडू (koḍū), Gujarati કડવું (kaḍvũ), Hindi कड़वा (kaṛvā).
