Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀸𑀤𑁄 (aggādo),[1] ablative singular of 𑀅𑀕𑁆𑀕 (agga, “beginning, top”), from Sanskrit अग्र (ágra). Related to आगे (āge, “before”). Cognate with Punjabi ਅਗਾਊਂ (agāū̃) / اگاؤں, Gujarati અગાઉ (agāu), Marathi आगाऊ (āgāū).
