Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀧𑁂𑀰𑀓𑀸𑀭 (*peśakāra) (compare Sanskrit पेशस्कारी (peśaskārī́, “female embroiderer”), Pali pesakāra). Cognate with Sinhalese පෙහෙරා (peherā).
