Inherited from Sanskrit कोष्ठ (koṣṭha, a granary, store-room, a treasure, an inner apartment, hollow in a tree). Cognate to Sinhalese කොටුව (koṭuwa, enclosure, fortress, castle) and Urdu کوتھَرِ (kothrī, a small room, a cabin; a closet). Doublet of ކޮޓަރި (koṭari), ކޮށާރު (koṣāru), ކޮޑި (koḍi), ކޯއްޓޭ (kōṭṭē), and ކޮޓި (koṭi)
