From Akkadian 𒁯𒈗𒄷 (DAR.LUGALMUŠEN /tarnugallu, tarlugallu/), from Sumerian 𒁯𒈗𒄷 (/dar-lugal/, literally “great, kingly, or crowned francolin; another member of the Gallini”). Compare Hebrew תַּרְנְגֹלֶת (tarnəḡṓleṯ).
