From Imperial Aramaic 𐡀𐡓𐡆𐡀 (ʾrzʾ, “mystery”), Old Persian *𐎼𐎠𐏀 (*rāza-). Compare Middle Persian [script needed] (lʾc /rāz/), Persian راز (râz), Hebrew רָז (rāz), Old Armenian երազ (eraz).
