Cognate with Turkish yağmak, Old Turkic [script needed] (yaɣ-, to pour, rain), Azerbaijani yağmaq, Bashkir яуыу (yawıw), Kazakh жауу (jauu), Khakas чаарға (çaarğa), Turkmen ýagmak, Tuvan чаар (çaar), Uzbek yogʻmoq.
