      وَمِنْهَا ٱلْمُطْبَقَةُ وَٱلْمُنْفَتِحَةُ. فَأَمَّا ٱلْمُطْبَقَةُ فَٱلصَّادُ، وَٱلضَّادُ، وَٱلطَّاءُ، وَٱلظَّاءُ. وَٱلْمُنْفَتِحَةُ: كُلُّ مَا سِوَى ذٰلِكَ مِنَ ٱلْحُرُوفِ؛ لِأَنَّكَ لَا تُطْبِقُ لِشَيْءٍ مِنْهُنَّ لِسَانَكَ، تَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى ٱلْحَنَكِ ٱلْأَعْلَى. وَهٰذِهِ ٱلْحُرُوفُ ٱلْأَرْبَعَةُ إِذَا وَضَعْتَ لِسَانَكَ فِي مَوَاضِعِهِنَّ ٱنْطَبَقَ لِسَانُكَ مِنْ مَوَاضِعِهِنَّ إِلَى مَا حَاذَى ٱلْحَنَكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى مِنَ ٱللِّسَانِ تَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى ٱلْحَنَكِ، فَإِذَا وَضَعْتَ لِسَانَكَ فَٱلصَّوْتُ مَحْصُورٌ فِيمَا بَيْنَ ٱللِّسَانِ وَٱلْحَنَكِ إِلَى مَوْضِعِ ٱلْحُرُوفِ.
      waminhā l-muṭbaqatu wal-munfatiḥatu. faʔammā l-muṭbaqatu faṣ-ṣādu, waḍ-ḍādu, waṭ-ṭāʔu, waẓ-ẓāʔu. wal-munfatiḥatu: kullu mā siwā ḏālika mina l-ḥurūfi; liʔannaka lā tuṭbiqu lišayʔin minhunna lisānaka, tarfaʕuhu ʔilā l-ḥanaki l-ʔaʕlā. wahāḏihi l-ḥurūfu l-ʔarbaʕatu ʔiḏā waḍaʕta lisānaka fī mawāḍiʕihinna nṭabaqa lisānuka min mawāḍiʕihinna ʔilā mā ḥāḏā l-ḥanaka l-ʔaʕlā mina l-lisāni tarfaʕuhu ʔilā l-ḥanaki, faʔiḏā waḍaʕta lisānaka faṣ-ṣawtu maḥṣūrun fīmā bayna l-lisāni wal-ḥanaki ʔilā mawḍiʕi l-ḥurūfi.
