From Old Anatolian Turkish قاشق (qašuq, qašıq), from Proto-Turkic *kaĺuk (spoon); synchronically diminutive of قاش (kaş, eyebrow; collet of a finger-ring; wooden bowl, small dish). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (qašuq), Azerbaijani qaşıq, Kazakh қасық (qasyq), Khakas хазых (xazıx), Tofa ӄаъһиӄ (qa'hiq), Uyghur قوشۇق (qoshuq) and Uzbek qoshiq.
