Etymology
From Middle Iranian ayyār; akin to Manichaean Middle Persian hyʾr (hayyār, “helper”). Partially borrowed from Arabic عَيَّار (ʕayyār, “vagabond”), from the root ع ي ر (ʕ-y-r) related with roaming and wandering.
