Borrowed from Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾwʾm), [script needed] (ʾʾwʾm /āwām/, “space of time; epoch; occasion”), from Old Persian *abigāmā f (“time”), from 𐎠𐎲𐎡𐎹 (abi-, “towards”) + Proto-Indo-European *gem- (“to press, to grasp”). Also borrowed in إِبَّان (ʔibbān).
