קוקן
Yiddish
Etymology
The same word as German kucken, gucken, probably from Middle High German gücken. The initial k- is usually explained through interference of unrelated Middle Low German kīken. Compare also Luxembourgish kucken, Dutch kijken.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈkukn̩/, [ˈkʊkŋ̩]
Usage notes
- Generally takes an object in the dative with אויף (oyf) immediately preceding the object.
