փայծաղն

Old Armenian

Alternative forms

Etymology

Cognate with Ancient Greek σπλήν (splḗn), Latin liēn, Sanskrit प्लिहन् (plihan), Avestan 𐬯𐬞𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬀𐬥 (spərəzan), Lithuanian blužnìs, Old Church Slavonic слѣзена (slězena) (Russian селезёнка (selezjónka)). Despite formal problems, which are usually explained through tabooistic sound replacements, all these forms obviously point to a Proto-Indo-European term.[1]
